Svetozár Hurban Vajanský (January 16,1847, Hlboké, district Senica nad Myjavou - August 17,1916, Martin) -a slovak politician, writer, literary critic, lawyer.

As part of the Slovak national party in 70-ies created an action group of young cultur - organizational and educational workers in Martin. From 1878 to 1898 he was an editor, from 1898 to 1899 he was an editor and from 1906 a principal editor of "Národné noviny" (National Journal). Jointly with J. M. ©kultéty he was the main ideologist of Martin´s center of the slovak national movement which opened up Memorandum Program of ©túr. Consequently he defended the idea of national unification.

In 1895 he was a member of Slovak delegation, so called "National Congress" in Budapest. In 1881 he renewed the edition of the magazine "Slovenské pohľady" (Slovak Perspectives). He was literary active. With his poetical collection "Tatry a more" fixed accent prosody in slovak literature. He wrote novels with time topical theme (Letiace tiene, Mier duąe) and wide drafted novels (Suchá ratoles», Pustokvet, Koreň a výhonky) with which put basis of Slovak social novel. He was a founder of modern Slovak literary critic (State about Slovak literature, State about Worldwide literature).
