Remarkable technical monument in southwestern Slovakia - water-mill in Jelka - is situated in beautiful area on the river bank of the Little Danube, which is creating the curled river-bed in a part of the country in lenght about 23 km.
Appearance and expansion of water-mills in our area was depended mostly on natural, hydrogeographical and agricultural situations. Richness of water stream in Podunajská nížina enabling the fast expansion of these specifical trades of process arrangement. In short areas of a bottom streams was situated a lot of ship-mills in so-called mills-ports.
In the year 1866 was on Little Danube about 37 mills, from which in Jelka were 4. Ship-mills anchored on river, or on a river banks, mostly if they had in river-basins the bars, were the big obstacles of the water mowements, therefore on bases of so-called "water law" from the year 1885 were cancelled all the ship-mills, which were unsuitable to the written norms about the water movement security. Permission for rebuilding of the ship-mill on circle was apropriate J. Németh in the year 1899. The rebuilted mill started to mill in the year 1906 and finished in April 1951
Rebuilted mill is now enabled for public and from the year 1983 registrered in State list of the immovable cultural monuments in the Slovak Republic.
