Krásna Hôrka castle, situated in Krásnohorské Podhradie, is classified as a National Cultural Monument.

Built at the end of the 13th and beginning of the 14th century by the Máriássy family, its existence is recorded in 1333. The original Gothic tower and residence were over time circumscribed by fortifications. A Renaissance transformation in 1539 to 1545 - a response to the menace of Ottoman expansion - made of it a formidable fortress, while further modification in the latter half of the following century endowed it with a late-Renaissance aspect. In feudal times the castle was the seat of the local rulers. Possession passed from the Máriássy family to the Bebeks, and then to the Andrássys, who retained it from 1585 to 1945, establishing a family museum there in 1903.
The castle now houses a history museum
