The Children's Centre, Ružomberok is a society for the support of children in Slovakia who, for one reason or another, are being brought up outside their natural family. established in 1990 as a non-profit, non-political organisation, it operates on a nationwide basis and brings together people who share its goal. To achieve its aims the society draws on the commitment of its members (professionals, students and the general public), its assets and revenues, the help of institutional and individual patrons, and collaboration with children's homes and national and local government.
The Children's Centre presses for disadventaged children to be accorded, in so far as possible. the rights embodied in the United Nation's Convention on the Rights of the Child and for their integration into society.
The Children's Centre is a member of the Slovak Humanitarian Council, the Slovak UNICEF Committee, and the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Children and Teenagers in Institutional Care.
