On the basis of the emission plan approved by the Ministry of Transport, Posts and Telecommunications of the Slovak Republic, Postal Philatelic Service (POFIS) of the Slovak Post Office, is responsible for printing and realisation of issues in the required quantity for the operation purposes ofthe Slovak Post Office and philately.
All issues of postage stamps are accompanied by the first-day-cover (FDC) issued by the Ministry. POFIS issued stamp sheets, sticking sheets, analogous postcards (carte maximum) and imprints on the post cards devoted to the significant cultural, social and sport events.
POFIS was founded in 1950, and this year we commemorate its fifty-year-work. The substance of its main activities has always been the retail and wholesale business conceming postal stationaries from all over the world. POFIS provides the sale of postal stationaries in its specialised shop in Bratislava (Odborárske námestie 2). Another way of sale is the novelty service for steady customers. The export service sends Slovak postal stationaries to the whole world. The post-marking service provides clients with the impressions of commemorative postmarks.
POFIS also publicises Slovak postage stamps not only among the philatelists, but also for the general public by issuing the promoting materials, as well as providing information about individual issues to inland and foreign press, and participating in philatelic exhibitions.
