Act No. 403/2010 Coll., amending and supplementing Act No. 575/2001 Coll. on the Organisation of Governmental Activities and of Central State Administration, as amended, entered into force on 1 November 2010. By the entry into force of this Act, competencies in the area of tourism were transferred from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Slovak Republic to the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development of the Slovak Republic. At the same time, the Slovak Tourist Board, a contributory organisation, was transferred to the founding competence of the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development of the Slovak Republic.

Functions and competencies of the Tourism Section:

  • Creation of conditions for the development of tourism as a state priority;
  • Formulation, implementation and monitoring of state policy of the development of tourism
  • Elaboration of a national concept of development of tourism and responsibility for its implementation
  • Provision of required incentives and help for investments of the private sector in tourism;
  • Participation in the establishment of a system of statistical information about tourism and processing of comprehensive statistical data on the development of tourism in the Slovak Republic;
  • Cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic in the support of the application of international standards and in the development of education in tourism;
  • Cooperation with the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic in the harmonisation of the interests of the development of tourism and the protection of nature;
  • Administration of the Register of regional tourism organisations;
  • Fulfillment of tasks and commitments of the Slovak Republic resulting from the membership of Slovakia
    • in the World Tourism Organisation and other international and interstate tourism organisations and associations;
    • in the European Union in the area of tourism and from international treaties relating to the area of tourism;
    • in the Tourism Committee of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD);
  • Implementation of:
    • tasks of cross-border cooperation in tourism;
    • foreign cooperation in tourism in the area of bilateral and multilateral relations;
    • international bilateral and multilateral contracts in tourism;
  • Methodical guidance and monitoring of the fulfillment of tasks of the Board;
  • Elaboration of programmes for the development of tourism and evaluation of their implementation;
  • Supporting of activities of local self-governing authorities for the development of tourism and activities of regional tourism organisations;
  • Assignment of tasks to organisations implementing the research of tourism.
