Jozef Murgaš (Tajov 17. 2. 1864 - Wilkes Barre, USA 23. 5. 1929 ) - Inventor and pioneer in the field of radiotelegraphy. In 1904 Murgaš was granted two patents from the US Patent Office for his so-called "Tonsystem". In total he registered twelve patents in the USA, all concerning radiotelegraphy. He was the first anywhere in the world to broadcast the spoken word. He was granted patent priority for uninterrupted wireless transmission using the "Tonsystem" principle on January 7th, 1916 in New York. The stamp design features (in the lower half) part of patent issued in the USA, where Murgaš carried out most of his research. It includes the essential part of his broadcast apparatus.
